About this scholarship
Sigtuna Foundation writer's residency
You will be provided with a free three-week stay at the Sigtuna Foundation’s guest house in Sigtuna, Sweden. Your accommodation is fully covered, so you can concentrate entirely on your writing. This is a fellowship in the form of benefits in kind; no cash payment is involved. The Foundation has been running the programme since 1937 in collaboration with the Swedish Writers’ Union and supports up to 5 writers each year.
Who can apply
- Membership: You are a member of the Swedish Writers' Union (Sveriges Författarförbund) or the Finland-Swedish Writers' Association (Finlands svenska författareförening).
- Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they hold one of the specified memberships.
How to apply
Applications should be submitted informally by email; no specific form is required. Please state ‘Författarstipendium’ in your application. For the 2027 residency, the application deadline is 31 October 2026.
How realistic are your chances?
As only members of two specific authors’ associations are eligible to apply, the pool of potential candidates is already small. With up to 5 places available each year, there is still competition, but it is by no means an open call for applications. If you are a member and submit a strong application in good time, your chances are quite good.
