About this scholarship
What the Herbert & Karin Jacobsson Foundation funds
You will receive a grant to help fund post-secondary studies (further study after A-levels) or doctoral (PhD) research. The foundation determines the amount of the grant on a case-by-case basis and does not publish a fixed amount. In the field of research, it focuses on doctoral-level studies and may award travel grants to enable you to attend a conference, but only if you are actively participating in it yourself, for example by presenting your own poster or giving a talk. The Gothenburg-based foundation was established in 1947 and supports students and researchers in the Gothenburg area.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are studying in Gothenburg. In practice, only applicants from Gothenburg and the surrounding area will be considered.
- Level: You are in post-secondary studies (after upper-secondary school), or you are a PhD researcher.
- Field of study: All subjects can apply.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
- Studying abroad: The foundation rarely funds stays abroad, such as an academic year in the USA.
- Extended study time: You are not entitled to additional financial support if your studies are extended because you have changed your course or degree programme and your Swedish state student grant (CSN) has been used up.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the SEB Foundation’s portal. There are two application rounds each year: from 1 March to 20 April, and from 15 September to 1 November. The Executive Board makes a decision twice a year, usually in May and November. It will only contact you if your application has been approved.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding is strictly limited by location: you must be studying in Gothenburg, and in practice only applicants from the Gothenburg area are considered, so the pool of eligible candidates is small. If you clearly meet the eligibility criteria – whether as an undergraduate or a PhD student with a specific reason, such as a conference at which you are presenting your own work – your prospects are good. Please ensure that you apply within one of the two specified timeframes.
