Bo Hammarskjöld Foundation scholarship

You will receive 90,000 SEK (about 8,100 EUR) for the 2026 prize. This is intended to support studies in the field of Swedish arts and crafts (Hemslöjd), i.e. traditional craft skills such as weaving, woodcarving or textile art. The grant is a one-off payment to support your training in your craft. It is awarded once a year by Hemslöjden, the National Federation of Swedish Craft Associations, which administers the foundation established in 1952.

Who can apply

• Who it is for: You work in the field of traditional craftsmanship, either as an apprentice or as a craftsperson.
• What the money is for: It is used for studying or training in Swedish arts and crafts.
• Where you study: Any setting is fine.
• Field: Any handicraft discipline.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
• Age: Applicants of all ages are welcome to apply, although preference will be given to younger applicants.

How to apply

You apply online during the application period, which runs every year from 15 August to 15 September. The link to the application form will be displayed on the Hemslöjden website during this period. Please describe clearly how you meet the eligibility criteria and what you intend to use the grant for. A panel of craft experts will assess the applications and recommend recipients to the board, which will make the final decision. You will be notified of the result by the end of October.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is aimed at a small target group: people working in the Swedish arts and crafts sector. Consequently, the pool of applicants is smaller than for open scholarships. If you can demonstrate that you are active in the arts and crafts sector, explain how your planned course of study will benefit this field, and are among the younger applicants, your chances are good. A specific, well-reasoned application that relates to your project is more important than a polished, general application.
