Sunnerdahl Disability Fund grant for individuals

You will receive a one-off grant to help fund measures that make your day-to-day life easier whilst living with a disability. Typical uses include a rehabilitation or recuperation trip within or outside Sweden, a stay at a holiday camp, a computer or accessories, a special bicycle or assistive devices that you cannot obtain through your local authority. There is no fixed amount. The foundation determines the amount of the grant based on your application and your financial situation. The money comes from ‘Stiftelsen Sunnerdahls Handikappfond’, a Swedish foundation that supports children and young people with disabilities.

Who can apply

• Disability: You have a disability and require the benefit you have applied for. This must be confirmed by a dated medical certificate from a doctor, therapist, physiotherapist, psychologist, speech and language therapist or a similar qualified professional. The medical certificate must not be more than one year old.
• Age: At the time of your application, you are not yet 30 years old.
• Residence: You live in Sweden.
• Income: Applicants from all income brackets are welcome to apply. If there is a high number of applicants, the Foundation will give priority to those on lower incomes; please therefore enclose your tax assessment notice 2024 (as well as that of your spouse, partner or a parent living in your household).
• Not covered: State, regional or local training courses; dental or medical care; medicines; food; spectacles; clothing; general financial support; purchases made prior to a decision; and a second grant to the same person or family within two years.

How to apply

Download the application form from the foundation’s website (available from 1 November) and complete it on your computer. Print it out, sign it and send it by post together with the two attachments – the certificate and your 2024 tax assessment notice. Applications must be received by 15 February. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant scheme is very narrowly defined. You must fall under 30, be resident in Sweden and provide evidence of both a disability and a specific need; consequently, the target group is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and submit a complete, well-documented application, your chances are good. The foundation gives priority to applicants on lower incomes and does not award funding to the same person two years in a row. You should therefore apply in a year when you really need the funding.
