What you get

You get an Erasmus+ grant (EU funding for study or work abroad) channelled through Malmö University. The rate depends on where you go:

• 730 EUR per month for destinations like Germany, France, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands and Norway.
• 680 EUR per month for destinations like Spain, Portugal, Poland, Greece, the Baltic states and Türkiye.

On top of that you get a travel allowance. It is worked out from the distance between Malmö and your destination, and it is higher if you travel in an environmentally friendly way. Students with fewer opportunities, for example because of a disability, can apply for an extra top-up. You can be funded for 2 to 6 months, up to 12 months total across all Erasmus+ stays in one study cycle (bachelor, master or doctorate). Note that this is a contribution towards your extra costs abroad, not full funding.

Who can apply

• Your university: You are enrolled in a degree programme at Malmö University when you apply. Standalone courses with no degree goal do not count.
• The internship: It must fit your subject and be approved by your department. It runs full time (40 hours per week) for the whole period.
• Where you go: An EU country (not Sweden), Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, North Macedonia, Serbia, Türkiye, or an overseas country or territory on the EU list. You cannot intern in the country where you lived during your Malmö studies.
• In person: No remote internships, and no commuting from Sweden to the workplace.
• Where you intern: A company, organisation or university abroad. It cannot be an EU institution or a body that manages EU programmes.
• No double funding: You cannot hold another EU or Swedish Council for Higher Education grant for the same period.
• Recent graduates: You can intern after graduating if you apply while still enrolled, start within 3 months of finishing and end within 12 months of your degree.

How to apply

First arrange the internship yourself with an employer in an eligible country and get your department to approve it. Then apply online through the MAU portal during one of the two windows: 8 January to 15 June, or 15 August to 15 December. Apply at least one month before the internship starts. Grants are never awarded for internships that have already begun.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competition with a fixed number of winners. It is Erasmus+ funding open to any enrolled Malmö University student who arranges a relevant internship abroad and meets the rules. If you fit the conditions and apply on time within a window, your prospects are good. The main effort is on you: finding the placement and getting departmental approval before you apply.
