About this grant / loan

Police Injury Foundation grant

You will receive a one-off payment averaging around 4,000 SEK (about 350 EUR); in the case of serious or large-scale incidents, the amount will be even higher. The money goes to police officers who have been injured whilst on duty as a result of a criminal offence directed against them in their capacity as police officers, as well as to the families of police officers killed whilst on duty. The foundation is run by Polisförbundet, the Swedish police union. It is funded by investment income and private donations, meaning that the total amount distributed each year varies.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: You are a police officer in Sweden or a family member of a police officer who died in the line of duty.
  • How you were hurt: You were injured whilst on duty as a result of a criminal offence directed against you as a police officer, for example by being deliberately kicked during an arrest or by being bitten by a person who may be carrying a blood-borne infection.
  • What does not count: Accidents at work not caused by a criminal offence, such as tripping whilst pursuing a person or accidentally colliding with a colleague.
  • Union membership: You can also apply even if you are not a member of Polisförbundet.

How to apply

Complete the application form and describe the incident in detail: the date, any sick leave, the severity of the injury and any lasting effects. Submit it to the regional trade union office responsible for the area where you work. They will add a statement and forward the application. The deadline is 1 September each year. A committee makes a decision once a year; late applications are carried over to the following year.

How realistic are your chances?

In 2024, 23 officers shared 194,000 SEK.
