About this grant / loan

What you get

You will receive a one-off grant to cover a specific need relating to your disability or chronic illness. The amount is not fixed: You should state the estimated costs in your application and enclose a cost estimate; the foundation will then decide on a case-by-case basis. Typical areas of support include assistive devices and equipment, training courses, and rehabilitation or recuperation trips. The grant only covers costs that have not already been funded by public funds. The foundation was established in 1980 by Henry and Ella Ståhl, who had both suffered a stroke. Every year, it awards grants to more than 200 people in Östergötland County.

Who can apply

  • Health situation: You have a permanent disability or a long-term illness that limits your physical mobility.
  • Where you live: Priority is given to people resident in Östergötland County in Sweden. You may also apply if you live in other counties, but your chances of success will be lower.
  • Purpose: Your application must be directly related to your illness or disability and must lead to a significant improvement.
  • Medical proof: You must attach a doctor's certificate no older than 1 year that confirms your diagnosis, your disability and what you are applying for.
  • Not funded: Recurring costs, dental treatment, computers, spectacles, as well as travel or purchases that you have already made without prior authorisation. Holiday travel will only be taken into account if treatment or rehabilitation is also available at the destination.

How to apply

Download the application form (PDF) from the Foundation’s website and complete it. Enclose the medical certificate and a quote from the service provider or travel agency. Submit the documents by 31 March for the first round, or by 30 September if a second round takes place. You will receive a written response approximately three months after the deadline.
