About this scholarship
The Hedelius Scholarship
You will receive funding to complete part of your PhD at a leading university abroad, usually for up to 6 months. The scholarship only covers the extra costs of your stay abroad, such as travel costs and the supplementary insurance required for the journey. The individual amounts vary depending on the destination and the duration of the stay. In the year 2025, 30 grants totalling 5.2 million SEK (approximately 470,000 euros) were awarded. Funding is provided by the Jan Wallander and Tom Hedelius Foundation and the Tore Browaldh Foundation, Sweden’s largest private sponsor of economic research. Former scholarship holders have studied at universities such as Harvard, Stanford, MIT, the University of Chicago and New York University. The scholarship does not cover your usual living expenses, as these are already covered by your home university, and you cannot apply for funding for family members.
