Brunel University - The Vice-Chancellor's Research Poster Prizes

What you get

You will win about 580 EUR (500 GBP) as a one-off prize for one of the five best research posters at Brunel University London’s annual poster conference. Each year, five prizes of 500 GBP each are awarded. This is a reward for your work, not a monthly scholarship. The prize is awarded as part of the ‘Doctoral Researchers Poster Conference’, an internal event at which PhD students present and discuss their work.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a research assistant at Brunel University and are usually undertaking a PhD or MPhil programme.
• University: You’re studying at Brunel University London.
• Field of study: Open to all fields of research.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Your poster: You will present a research poster in person and explain it to each member of the jury for around five minutes.
• Past winners: If you have already won one of these prizes, you may still take part, but you cannot win that prize again.

How to apply

There is no separate registration form. Participation is by submitting a poster for the annual conference, which takes place in around June. You will be provided with the full details once you have enrolled at Brunel University.

How realistic are your chances?

Only PhD students from a single university are eligible to take part, and only five prizes are awarded each year. The field of participants is small, but the standard is high. If your research is compelling and you can present your poster clearly and comprehensibly to the judges, who do not come from your field of specialism, your chances are good. The judges assess how well you communicate; therefore, a poster that is understandable even to non-specialists will give you an advantage.
