About this award / prize

Oxford University Press Pirye Prize

You win about 1,200 EUR (1,000 GBP) plus a commission. You design, make and show an artwork for a specific spot: the Oxford University Press Bookshop on Oxford's High Street. The Ruskin School of Art at the University of Oxford awarded the prize once a year. It was named after Dr Pirye, a 16th-century tenant of the site where the bookshop later stood.

Who can apply

  • University: You study at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford.
  • Level: You are an undergraduate in your second year.
  • Field of study: You study Fine Art. You can enter work in any medium.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Early in Trinity term (the summer term at Oxford), second-year students showed their work in an exhibition at the Ruskin School. They also handed in a written proposal for the bookshop commission. A jury of art critics and curators judged both the exhibited work and the proposal. The deadline was 20 May.
