Dr E T Davies Scholarship

During your first year of study at Bangor University in Wales, you will receive a one-off payment of about 1,725 EUR (1,500 GBP), which is paid out at the end of November. This is a named award under Bangor University’s first-year student scholarship programme, funded by a 1962 bequest from Dr E. T. Davies of Liverpool. It is not awarded every year: the university may withhold the award if no candidate is deemed sufficiently qualified.

Who can apply

• Where you come from: You are from Wales and attended secondary school there.
• Residence: You live in the United Kingdom or are considered to be resident in the United Kingdom for the purposes of tuition fees.
• Degree: You are applying for a Bachelor’s degree programme at Bangor University, with or without a foundation year.
• Study level so far: You have completed courses at level 3, such as A-levels or an equivalent higher education qualification.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• UCAS choice: You must list Bangor as your first choice via UCAS and enrol there in order to receive the money.

How to apply

Submit the application form for the admission scholarship. The application period begins on 8 October and ends on 30 January. Apply via UCAS before the deadline on 14 January. In February, you will then sit an exam in a subject of your choice at your own school or college. Bangor University will assess this exam to decide whether to award the scholarship.

How realistic are your chances?

The award of this scholarship is highly selective. You must have been born in Wales, attended school there, and come out on top against other applicants from Bangor in a subject-specific examination. The pool of applicants is therefore small, but the university may withhold the scholarship if no candidate is good enough. Your examination results are crucial. If you meet the criteria for a Welsh school education and prepare well for your chosen examination, your prospects are good.
