Alumni Foundation music bursaries

You will receive around 500 GBP (about 585 EUR) for one academic year to fund specialist tuition in singing, an instrument or conducting. A scholarship is a grant that you do not have to repay. It covers the cost of lessons with a tutor, and the Department of Music will help you choose a tutor. The funding comes from the University of Bristol Alumni Foundation and is paid out at the start of the academic year. You may reapply in subsequent years.

Who can apply

• University: You are a full-time student at the University of Bristol.
• Your subject: You are studying any subject other than music. If you have obtained your degree from the Department of Music, you are not eligible to apply.
• Study year: You are in your second year of study or above.
• Music involvement: You have already taken part in musical activities at university, for example in a choir, an orchestra or an ensemble.
• No overlap: You have not yet received a music award from the university, such as an organ or choir scholarship.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Apply once a year via an online form. The application deadline is 31 July. If you are shortlisted, you will be invited to an audition.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed at a small target group: students in Bristol who are not enrolled in the Department of Music, are in at least their second year of study, and are already involved in music-related activities at the university. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet these criteria and are preparing for the audition, your chances are good.
