About this scholarship
What you get
In the first year of your Bachelor’s degree in ‘Medical Physiology and Therapeutics’ at the University of Nottingham, you will receive a one-off payment of about 1,150 EUR (1,000 GBP). This payment is made only once, exclusively in the first year, and is not continued thereafter. According to secondary sources, up to three of these scholarships are awarded per intake.
Who can apply
- Course: You are in the first year of the full-time Bachelor’s degree programme in ‘Medical Physiology and Therapeutics’ at the UK campus in Nottingham.
- Residence: You have the status of a UK ‘domestic student’. This means that you have lived in the United Kingdom for at least three years prior to the start of your studies. Refugees with recognised status and migrant workers from the EU may also meet these requirements.
- Financial need: You are receiving the means-tested student loan for living costs, either in full or in part, and have applied for the maximum amount to which you are entitled. ‘Means-tested’ means that the amount you receive depends on your household income.
- Motivation: You must submit a personal statement in which you explain your interest in the natural sciences, for example by referring to your work experience, voluntary work or extracurricular activities.
- No other awards: You do not receive an external scholarship.
- Attendance: You must attend at least 80% of your scheduled courses. If you fall short of this requirement, the award may be withdrawn.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted via an online form, which can be accessed via a link on the university’s advice page. The application deadline is 19 November. There will be no interview, so the decision will be made on the basis of your written application. You will be notified of the result by email within four weeks of the application deadline.
How realistic are your chances?
This award is very narrowly defined. Only first-year students studying medical physiology and therapeutics at the University of Nottingham who are from the United Kingdom and receive a means-tested loan are eligible to apply; the pool of eligible candidates is therefore small. If you meet these criteria and write a compelling personal statement explaining your interest in the natural sciences, your chances are good. As reports suggest that up to three scholarships are awarded per year group, a convincing, well-supported case is more important than the size of the applicant pool.
