School of Informatics Scholarships

During your four-year Bachelor’s degree, you will receive a total of 1,150 EUR per year (about £1,000). The exact amount is determined by the sponsoring company, so some students receive slightly more and others slightly less. You may also be offered a paid summer job with the company between your third and fourth years of study. After you graduate, the company may offer you a full-time position, which you are free to decline. The scholarship is awarded by the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh in collaboration with industry partners such as the ATM software company KAL and Bank of America. Two scholarships are available, each starting in the first year of study.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh, which covers computer science and related IT subjects.
• Grades: You achieve very good results in your first-year exams. Selection is based on your performance in these exams.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

First, secure a place on the ‘Computer Science’ degree programme in Edinburgh via UCAS, the central admissions service for higher education institutions in the United Kingdom. If your exam results in your first year of study are good, the faculty will shortlist you and invite you to apply. Your CV and academic records will then be forwarded to the funding organisation, which will interview you and inform you in writing whether you have been awarded the scholarship.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is a highly selective one. You must be enrolled on a specific degree programme at a specific university, and as only two scholarships are awarded, the pool of applicants is very small. Selection is based on your exam results in your first year of study, so achieving good marks early on is crucial. If you secure a place at university and perform well in these initial exams, your prospects look good.
