Ruskin School of Art - The Sir William Dunn School for Pathology Art Award

What the Sir William Dunn School Art Award gives you

You will receive a commission for the creation and installation of a work of art at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology in Oxford. The prize is worth GBP 1,200 (approx. 1,200 EUR) for one project. You will create the work during the summer holidays and install it in the autumn. The school will then add it permanently to its collection. The prize is awarded by the Ruskin School of Art at the University of Oxford in partnership with the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology – a partnership that began in 2014.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are a student at the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford.
• Level: You may be either a Bachelor’s or a Master’s student.
• What you submit: A proposal for a site-specific artwork, i.e. a work created for a specific location. Your idea must be inspired by the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology, either by the subject of pathology or by the building itself.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

You should submit a proposal of approximately 250 words, together with accompanying images. The jury will announce the winner during Trinity Term, the summer term at Oxford. Please note that the prize is currently suspended and no applications are being accepted. The most recent winners were from the year 2019.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize has very strict eligibility criteria. Only students at a small art college in Oxford can apply, and the proposal must relate to a specific building, so the pool of eligible entrants is very small. If you’re studying at the Ruskin and can develop a compelling, site-specific proposal, your chances are good. Please note, however, that the prize is currently on hold.
