About this award / prize
The Winton Capital Prize (Part A)
You will receive a one-off cash prize of £350 (about 410 EUR) for outstanding performance in your physics examinations in your second year at the University of Oxford. The examination is known as ‘Part A’ and constitutes the most important assessment in the second year of the Bachelor’s degree programme in Physics. The prize is sponsored by Winton Capital, a quantitative investment firm. It is one of approximately 22 awards presented by the Department of Physics at the University of Oxford for outstanding performance in examinations and project work.
Who can apply
- Course: You are studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Physics at the University of Oxford.
- Study year: You are currently sitting Part A of the exam, which takes place in the second year of your degree.
- Grades: You achieved the best results in Part A of the exam. Only the best candidates proceed to the next stage, so this is a rigorous pre-selection process.
- Nationality: Any nationality is eligible. There are no restrictions on residence.
How to apply
No application is required. The prize is awarded automatically on the basis of your exam results in Part A.
How realistic are your chances?
This prize is awarded to the best students in a given year group on a degree programme. The field of entrants comprises virtually all second-year physics students at Oxford. You cannot improve your chances by applying; the only way is to be amongst the top performers in the ‘Part A’ examination. The prize is awarded each year to a handful of the top graduates, not to those who merely meet the minimum requirements.
