Department of Chemistry, University College London - Ingold Prize

In recognition of your outstanding achievements over the course of the year, you will receive a cash prize of around 590 EUR. The exact amount will not be disclosed; the department’s prizes range from a share of 30 GBP to 1,000 GBP. The Ingold Prize is awarded annually by the Department of Chemistry at University College London (UCL) and is named after the chemist Sir Christopher Kelk Ingold. It is not usually awarded to a single person, but to several students each year from different year groups.

Eligibility

• Degree level: You are a Bachelor’s student studying chemistry. You can select any year of study, not just your final year.
• University: You are studying at University College London (UCL) in the United Kingdom.
• Grades: You have achieved a high standard of academic performance over the course of the year. This award is based solely on your achievements.
• Nationality: You may choose any nationality you wish; there are no restrictions.

How to apply

There is no application process. The faculty selects the winners internally at the end of each academic year on the basis of their achievements.

How realistic are your chances?

As you cannot apply for this, all you need to do is achieve good results on the Chemistry degree programme at UCL. The department awards the prize to several of the best students in each year group; your chances therefore depend on how well your results compare with those of the other students in your year group. Focus on your grades, and the recognition will follow naturally.
