What you get

If you are studying the ‘Nutrition and Dietetics’ (MNutr) Master’s programme at the University of Nottingham as a home student, various sources of funding will cover your tuition fees and living costs throughout the four-year programme. The largest grant is the NHS Training Grant of about 5,760 EUR (5,000 GBP) per year, which you will never have to repay. You may also receive up to 3,000 GBP per year towards things such as childcare or working in a region with a shortage of dietitians. The NHS also reimburses travel and additional accommodation costs for your clinical placements. In addition, Nottingham offers an income-based ‘Core Bursary’ of up to 1,400 GBP per year (for households with an income of up to 35,000 GBP) as well as a ‘Nottingham Potential Bursary’ of 1,000 GBP per year for students who meet specific criteria designed to promote access to education. Your tuition fees (9,790 GBP for the academic year 2026/27, subject to annual increases) are covered by a tuition fee loan, which is paid directly to the university on a non-means-tested basis. A living costs loan of between 5,048 GBP and 10,830 GBP per year helps with living expenses.

Who can apply

• Course: You are studying the four-year degree programme ‘MNutr – Nutrition and Dietetics’ at the Sutton Bonington Campus (UCAS code B401).
• Residence: You have ‘Home’ status for the UK and normally live in England. Students from the EU and other countries must make separate enquiries with Student Finance and the NHS Business Services Authority.
• Already have a degree? You can continue to claim this grant provided that your previous qualification is not in the field of healthcare in which you are currently studying.
• Grades: You need A-level grades of AAB or 32 points in the International Baccalaureate.
• Extra grants by situation: The amount of the grants and NHS grants depends on your household income, as well as whether you have dependants, have a disability or have been admitted via a special entry route.

How to apply

Apply for tuition fee and living costs loans via Student Finance England at gov.uk/studentfinance. Apply for the NHS Learning Support Fund separately at nhsbsa.nhs.uk/nhs-learning-support-fund. You can submit both applications at the same time or one after the other. University of Nottingham grants are calculated automatically once Student Finance has submitted your household income.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a course-specific grant and not a one-off, competitively awarded grant. If you are admitted to the MNutr degree programme with ‘Home’ status, the basic grant will be awarded automatically. The NHS Training Grant and loans are available to all eligible students, whilst the higher supplementary grants and scholarships depend on your income and personal circumstances. If you meet the residence requirement for a healthcare degree programme such as this one, you can expect to receive the basic funding without having to apply for it.
