About this grant / loan
What NurseAid gives you
You will receive a sum of one-off grant of up to about 465 EUR (up to 400 GBP) to help you cope with a sudden financial emergency whilst you are training to become a nurse. This is emergency assistance, not a monthly grant. It is paid as a one-off sum to help you cope with a specific emergency, such as following a break-up, if a family member falls ill, or if your household loses its income. The money comes from NurseAid, a registered charity that supports nursing students in need, and not from the university itself.
Who can apply
- What you study: You are enrolled on a diploma or bachelor’s degree programme in nursing at the University of Cumbria.
- Your situation: You are facing genuine financial hardship, for example due to a separation, an illness in the family or the loss of your household income.
- Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
- Proof: You can support your application with a letter from your tutor or a ‘Money Matters’ adviser at the university, as well as documents demonstrating your financial hardship.
How to apply
Please request an application form and an information pack directly from the charity. There is no fixed deadline, so you can apply at any time as soon as the need arises. Your application must be accompanied by a letter from your tutor or the university’s ‘Money Matters’ team, as well as evidence of your financial situation.
How realistic are your chances?
This grant is very specifically targeted: you must be a nursing student at a particular university and find yourself in a genuine, verifiable emergency situation, meaning that only a small number of people are competing for it. If you clearly meet these criteria and can provide evidence of your hardship, your chances are good. As this is emergency assistance, a clear and well-founded case is more important than a polished application.
