About this grant / loan
Benefit
You will receive an additional grant on top of one of the scholarships offered by the Department of Anthropology at the University of Oxford. This is a supplement to a main scholarship, which complements your financial support. It does not, in itself, constitute full funding. The funding is available for up to three years. In the third year, you may need to reapply to cover a fourth year. The School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography awards the scholarship, and scholarship holders become members of Linacre College, Oxford.
Eligibility
- Degree: You are applying for a DPhil in Anthropology (PhD) at the University of Oxford.
- Field: Anthropology only, within the Faculty of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography.
- Timing: You are currently at the start of your PhD. If you have already completed part of your PhD, you may only apply for a continuation once your existing Rausing grant has expired.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
- College: You will become a member of Linacre College.
How to apply
There is no separate application process. Applications for the DPhil in Anthropology at Oxford are made within the standard application deadline for postgraduate programmes, which usually ends in January. The faculty then selects scholarship recipients internally. Decisions are made in late spring, and successful candidates are notified at that time.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is very narrowly defined. Only PhD candidates studying anthropology at a specific department at the University of Oxford are eligible, and it is combined with a small number of named supplementary scholarships such as this one. Whilst this means the pool of applicants is small, it is a strong one, as admission to a PhD programme at Oxford is in itself highly competitive. If you can demonstrate a sound research proposal and secure a place on the programme, you are automatically in the running, meaning a well-suited candidate stands a fair chance.
