The Vice-Chancellor's Prizes for Doctoral Research

For outstanding research achievements during your PhD, you will receive a one-off cash prize of 500 GBP (about 628 EUR). Brunel University of London in the UK awards five of these prizes each year, all of which are intended to recognise outstanding research achievements. You may accept the prize either during your PhD or at the end of your PhD, for example at the summer graduation ceremony.

• Level: You are working on your PhD.
• University: You are enrolled at Brunel University London.
• Field of study: Any research topic is fine.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Achievement: Your research stands out for its quality.

How to apply

You do not need to apply in advance. This is an award for which you are selected. Brunel explains how the winners are chosen once you have started your PhD there.

How realistic are your chances?

Only five prizes are awarded each year to recognise the most outstanding research achievements across the entire university. Competition is therefore fierce, and you cannot simply apply. Your chances depend entirely on the extent to which your PhD thesis stands out from those of other PhD students at Brunel University. Think of the prize as recognition of excellent research rather than a source of funding that you can rely on when planning your studies.
