About this scholarship

MPhil Scholarship in the Humanities and Social Sciences

You will receive up to 279 EUR per academic year for two years to cover your tuition fees at University of Oxford. St Cross College, one of the graduate colleges at Oxford, awards two of these scholarships each year. The funding continues for as long as you are required to pay tuition fees, thereby supporting you throughout your MPhil programme.

Who can apply

  • Degree: You are starting an MPhil degree in a subject within the humanities or social sciences at the University of Oxford, or a BPhil degree in philosophy.
  • College: You must list St Cross College as your first choice in your application for a Master’s degree at Oxford. You may only take up the scholarship at St Cross College.
  • Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Apply via the University of Oxford’s central admissions system for postgraduate programmes and list St Cross College as your first choice. The application deadline is 14 March. Please check the eligibility criteria for this scholarship, as some scholarships require additional documentation.

How realistic are your chances?

Only two scholarships are awarded each year, so they are scarce. However, they are tied to a specific college and a set group of MPhil and BPhil programmes, which narrows down the pool of applicants. If you have decided to study the humanities or social sciences at Oxford and list St Cross as your first choice, you will be competing against a smaller pool of applicants than in the university-wide selection process. A compelling application submitted by the March deadline offers well-suited candidates a genuine chance.
