Bunnell Lewis Graduate Scholarship in Latin

You will receive 1,500 GBP per year (about 1,750 EUR) for up to 3 years to fund your doctoral thesis focusing on Latin at University College London (UCL). The award is presented by the Department of Greek and Latin at UCL. In years when no suitable doctoral student is found, the same amount may be awarded to a Master’s student (MA) whose research focuses on Latin.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are a PhD student or, in a few years’ time, a Master’s student.
• Field of study: Your research focuses on Latin language and literature.
• Where you study: You are studying at University College London in the United Kingdom.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

There is no separate application process. The department automatically selects eligible students and contacts those who meet the requirements.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is very narrowly defined. It is presented to a researcher specialising in Latin within a single department at UCL, meaning that the pool of eligible candidates is very small and it is not possible to apply directly. If your PhD or Master’s thesis focuses exclusively on Latin and you have been admitted to the department, you already belong to the small group of candidates eligible for the award, which works in your favour.
