King's Living Bursary

You will receive an annual grant of up to about 2,300 EUR (£2,000) to cover your living costs whilst studying at King’s College London. This does not need to be repaid. The exact amount depends on your household income and when you start your course. New students starting their studies in 2025/26 will receive up to £2,000 (approximately 2,300 EUR) for the lowest income brackets; this amount decreases as income rises to £1,600 (approximately 1,850 EUR). Students who began their studies in 2024/25 or earlier will receive up to £1,600,, with the amount decreasing to £1,200 (approximately 1,400 EUR). The grant is recalculated each year, so you will continue to receive it for the duration of your studies as long as you meet the eligibility criteria. It is paid out in two instalments over the course of the year.

Who can apply

• University: You’re studying at King’s College London.
• Degree level: You are currently studying for your first full-time bachelor’s degree or a PGCE (a one-year teacher training course).
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Fee status: You have ‘home’ fee status and are eligible for maintenance support from Student Finance (the UK Government’s loan to cover living costs).
• Financial need: Your household income, as assessed by Student Finance, is £42,875 (approximately 49,000 EUR) or less per year.
• Not eligible: Qualifying postgraduate programmes in healthcare leading to registration, students studying medicine or dentistry who are in an NHS-funded academic year, part-time students, and students from the EU who receive only a loan to cover tuition fees, but not a loan to cover living costs.

How to apply

You do not need to submit a separate application. King’s will automatically check your eligibility and will usually contact you before the end of November. All you need to do is arrange for Student Finance to carry out a means test on your household income by 30 June of the academic year and agree to this information being passed on to the university.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a means-tested grant. If you meet the income and academic eligibility criteria, you will receive the grant, and King’s College supports around 5,000 students each year. Your chances therefore depend on whether you meet the criteria, not on whether you outcompete other applicants. Just make sure that ‘Student Finance’ has assessed your household income and that you and your parents have given your consent, as otherwise the money will not be paid out to you.
