NDDC Foreign Postgraduate Scholarship

You will receive a full scholarship scholarship to study for a Master’s degree abroad, which will cover your tuition fees for up to three years. The scholarship is awarded by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), a Nigerian federal agency that funds development projects in the Niger Delta region. The amount is set in Nigerian naira at the current exchange rate, so there is no fixed amount in euros.

Who can apply

• Where you go: You have already been offered a place on a Master’s programme at a recognised university abroad.
• Degree you have: You hold a bachelor’s degree with a grade of ‘First Class’ or ‘Second Class Upper Division’ (very good results).
• Field of study: You hold a degree in agricultural sciences or biotechnology, engineering, environmental sciences, earth sciences, computer science or artificial intelligence, medical sciences, architecture or civil engineering, or law.
• Origin: They come from the Niger Delta region in Nigeria.
• Age: When applying, you are subject to 40.
• National service: You have your NYSC discharge or exemption certificate. This certifies that you have completed the compulsory National Youth Service in Nigeria or have been exempted from it.
• Preference: Applicants from oil-producing communities will be given priority, but other applicants from the region are also welcome to apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the official NDDC scholarship portal by 19 April. If you are shortlisted, you will sit a computer-based test in Rivers State and must achieve a minimum of 70% marks. This is followed by a final assessment by the local and municipal committees.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very strictly targeted. You must be from the Niger Delta region, hold a very good bachelor’s degree in one of the eight specified subject areas, and already have a letter of offer from a foreign university. This narrows down the pool of eligible applicants, but thanks to the test and the community’s vetting process, only well-prepared candidates make the cut. If you clearly meet the criteria, have your admission and NYSC documents ready, and perform well in the test, your prospects are good.
