Palgrave Brown UK Scholarship

During your Bachelor’s degree at the University of Oxford, you will receive an annual grant of at least about EUR 7,000 (£6,000) per year towards your living costs. The grant is valid for the duration of your degree, i.e. for 3 or 4 years. If you are undertaking a six-year medical degree, you will receive the grant for the first four years only. The scholarship is funded by the Palgrave Brown Bursary Fund, and only one scholarship is awarded each year.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You have been offered a place at the University of Oxford, at any of its colleges.
• Degree level: You are just starting your first (Bachelor’s) degree, so this information is intended solely for new students.
• Where you are from: They usually live in the English counties of Norfolk or Suffolk, or went to school there.
• Field of study: Open to all degree programmes offered by Oxford.
• Financial need: You need financial support for your studies. Your grades also play a part.
• One try: You may only apply for this scholarship once.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the University of Oxford by 4 February. If you have deferred your place or are undertaking the University of Oxford’s ‘Astrophoria Foundation Year’, you should apply in January of the year in which your degree programme actually begins. Selection takes place in the spring, and you will be notified of the result by the end of May.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one scholarship is awarded each year, and according to the university, competition is fierce, making it a highly contested scholarship. However, the eligibility criteria are quite narrow: you must be a first-year student at Oxford from Norfolk or Suffolk with a demonstrable financial need, which keeps the pool of applicants small. If you meet these criteria and can demonstrate your financial need, you have a genuine chance of securing this single place.
