Peter Birks Memorial Scholarship (Oxford Law Faculty)

You will receive a one-off grant of about 5,800 EUR (GBP 5,000) to cover the tuition fees for your postgraduate law programme at the University of Oxford. This covers the entire period during which you are required to pay tuition fees for your course. The Faculty of Law at the University of Oxford awards this grant once a year in memory of Peter Birks, a leading Oxford legal scholar, and it is funded by donations from his former students and friends.

Who can apply

• Degree: You will be starting one of the following law degree programmes at Oxford: the BCL (Bachelor of Civil Law), the MJur (Magister Juris), the MSc in Law and Finance, the MPhil in Law or the DPhil in Law.
• Field of study: Law.
• Where you study: The University of Oxford.
• College: Any college in Oxford is an option; you don’t have to choose a specific one.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities. Both students from the UK and from abroad can apply.

How to apply

There is no separate application process. Apply for one of the eligible law degree programmes, and if you are admitted, you will automatically be considered for this scholarship.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one scholarship holder is selected each year, and the eligible degree programmes are among the most sought-after at the University of Oxford. You do not apply for the scholarship separately; therefore, the most important factor is submitting a compelling application for the degree programme itself. Please check the current status before making any plans: the 2026/27 scholarship has already been awarded, and the next available year has not yet been confirmed.
