The Sir Thomas White Scholarship

You receive 4,500 GBP in total (about 5,175 EUR), paid in three yearly instalments of 1,500 GBP (about 1,725 EUR) as long as you make satisfactory progress in your studies. One student wins it each year, and it covers the three years of a full-time undergraduate degree. It is given by the University of Northampton together with Sir Thomas White's Northampton Charity to help academically strong students from the Northampton area who cannot fully fund their studies.

Who can apply

• University: You have an offer for a full-time undergraduate programme at the University of Northampton. You have made it your firm UCAS choice, meaning your confirmed first choice in the UK university application system.
• Study phase: You are starting your first year.
• Where you live: You have lived permanently in the Borough of Northampton for at least the last five years.
• Age: You are under 25 at the application deadline.
• Financial need: Your household income, as assessed by Student Finance England, is 42,737 GBP (about 49,150 EUR) or less per year.
• Field of study: Any subject is fine.
• No double funding: Your tuition fees are not already covered by an NHS Bursary or another funding body.

How to apply

You apply through an online form run by the University of Northampton on behalf of the charity. Applications are currently closed and reopen in April 2027. If you meet the residence criterion but are not chosen, you are automatically considered for a separate charity grant in future years, as long as you apply.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is cut very narrowly: only one student wins it each year. You must have lived in the Borough of Northampton for five years, be under 25, study at the University of Northampton and show real financial need. The eligible group is therefore small, but the single place makes it competitive within that group. If you clearly meet every condition and can document your financial need, a well-evidenced application has a genuine chance.
