Tynybedw Law Bursary

You will receive about 9,500 EUR (25,000 GBP) in total, which will be paid out in cash during your three-year law degree: approximately 3,050 EUR (8,000 GBP) in each of the first two years and approximately 3,400 EUR (9,000 GBP) in the final year. Geraint Hughes established the scholarship to enable students who require additional financial support to embark on a career in law. He is a law graduate of King’s College London and a retired partner at the law firm Clifford Chance. A new scholarship is awarded each year. Repeating a year or taking a break from studies is not eligible for funding, and funding will only continue if your grades and attendance remain satisfactory.

Who can apply

• Degree: This is your first bachelor’s degree programme, and from September you will be studying 2025 on any bachelor’s degree programme in law at King’s College London.
• Where you are from: You have ‘Home Fee’ status and live in Wales.
• Financial need: Your estimated household income is 69,200 GBP per year or less.
• Student Finance Wales: You have claimed your full entitlement to loans or grants to cover tuition fees and living costs through Student Finance Wales. You also agree that Student Finance Wales may pass on your financial details to the higher education institution.
• Your place: You have definitively accepted an offer for an eligible degree programme at King’s University.

Please apply by 6 July 2025, 23:00, online via the King’s College London website. The award of the scholarship will be decided on the basis of your personal statement and an assessment of your financial need.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very selective: only one is awarded each year, and you must be a law student at King’s College based in Wales whose income falls below a specified threshold. This keeps the pool of eligible applicants small, meaning that a well-suited candidate will face limited competition. Your personal statement is crucial; a clear and honest account of your circumstances and your motivation is therefore key to being awarded the scholarship.
