Department of Statistics MSc Bursary

You will receive a maintenance grant of £9,000 (about 10,450 EUR) to help with your living costs. In addition, your tuition fees will be covered in full at the home student rate, which for the academic year 2026/27 is £13,040 (about 15,000 EUR). The funding is valid for one year, i.e. the duration of the MSc programme. It is awarded by the Department of Statistics at the University of Warwick, which awards a maximum of two of these scholarships to students commencing their studies in September 2026. As women are under-represented in this field, one of the two scholarships is reserved for a female applicant.

Who can apply

• Course: You are applying for the Master’s degree programme in ‘Statistics’ at the University of Warwick.
• Fee status: You are entitled to the home student fee rate, which generally means that you are resident in the United Kingdom.
• Financial need: You do not receive any funding from other sources.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they meet the above-mentioned criteria for ‘Home’ fee status.
• Reserved place: One of the two scholarships is reserved for a female applicant.

How to apply

You should submit your application alongside your application for the MSc programme. There is no separate form. Please include a cover letter with the subject line ‘Scholarship application’, which should not exceed 400 words. In this letter, explain why you wish to study the MSc programme in Statistics and outline your career plans. The department will contact successful applicants directly. If you have not received a response by the end of March, your application was unsuccessful.

How realistic are your chances?

With a maximum of two scholarships per year, this funding is limited and competition is fierce. The faculty may also decide not to award any scholarships if the applications are not compelling enough. However, the eligibility criteria are quite strict: you must be enrolled on the MSc in Statistics programme at the University of Warwick, have ‘home fee’ status and have no other source of funding. This limits the pool of applicants. If you clearly meet these criteria and write a compelling personal statement, your prospects are good. The reserved place offers female applicants an additional opportunity.
