Stadt Graz - Würdigungspreis der Stadt Graz für Studierende der Kunstuniversität Graz

What you get

You receive a one-off award of 2,500 EUR, paid by the City of Graz. It is a prize, not a monthly scholarship. It recognises outstanding artistic or academic work by a student at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG). The amount has stood at 2,500 EUR since 2019, but the city council confirms the figure each year, so it can change. The award is handed over at an annual ceremony where the recipient performs.

Who can apply

• University: You study at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG).
• Field of study: Any subject taught at the KUG in music or performing arts.
• Achievement: You have produced outstanding artistic or academic work.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. What counts is that you study at the KUG.

How to apply

You cannot apply yourself. The KUG nominates the winner: a jury appointed by the rectorate, together with the rector and the scholarship commission, proposes a name to the City of Graz, and the city senate confirms the award. Your route in is to stand out in your studies so the university puts you forward.

How realistic are your chances?

Only one student is honoured each year, and you cannot apply yourself, so you cannot plan for it directly. The university picks the strongest candidate from its own students. This makes it a recognition of work you have already done, not a competition you enter. The best thing you can do is produce exceptional work and become visible to your institute and the scholarship commission.
