Österreichische Gesellschaft für Chirurgie - Young Surgeons Forum (YSF) – Preis

What you get

You win a cash prize for the best talks at the Young Surgeons Forum (YSF), a set of sessions at the Austrian Surgery Congress. Three prizes are awarded each year: 600 EUR for first place, 400 EUR for second and 300 EUR for third. The Austrian Society for Surgery (ÖGCH) runs the award and has handed it out every year since 2012. Trainee surgeons moderate the YSF sessions themselves. A jury of experienced surgeons and the session chairs judges each talk on its presentation and scientific value.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are training to become a specialist surgeon (Facharzt/Facharztärztin für Chirurgie).
• Membership: You are a full member of the ÖGCH (the main society, Stammgesellschaft).
• What you do: You give a talk in one of the YSF sessions at the Austrian Surgery Congress. There is no application form; you enter by submitting a congress talk.
• Language: You can present in German or English.
• Proof: You hand in a confirmation from your department head or department that you are in training.

How to apply

You register your talk through the congress website, chirurgiekongress.at, by the submission deadline. The deadline changes each year and follows the congress's general call for talks. The jury then decides the prizes during the congress and hands them over there. The next congress is planned for 8 to 11 June 2027 in Salzburg.

How realistic are your chances?

This prize is cut narrowly: only trainee surgeons who are full ÖGCH members and who present at the YSF sessions are in the running, so the field is small. Only three prizes go out each year, and they reward the quality of your talk, not a written application. If you are already preparing a congress presentation and meet the membership and training conditions, entering costs you little extra and your prospects are reasonable.
