About this scholarship
Carl Michael Ziehrer Award
As a music student in Austria, you will receive a one-off cash grant to cover your living and study costs. The exact amount is not specified. The payment is made once per academic year. The scholarship is provided by the Carl-Michael-Ziehrer Foundation in Vienna, which was established in 1935 to support musicians and composers in need. Since 1976, it has also been supporting students at Austrian conservatoires.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You study at an Austrian music school, for example a music university or conservatory.
- Field of study: You’re studying music.
- Financial need: You need financial support to fund your studies.
- Talent: You clearly have a talent for music.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are studying at an Austrian music school.
How to apply
Download the application form (PDF) from the foundation’s website. Post the signed form to their office in Vienna. The deadline is 12 October. The award is usually presented in November.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is aimed at a small target group: you must be studying music at an Austrian school and demonstrate a genuine financial need. This keeps the pool of applicants small, so your chances are good if you clearly meet the criteria. As a small private foundation, it places greater emphasis on a well-documented explanation of your financial need and your talent than on a polished presentation.
