About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive 500 to 5,000 EUR per academic year as a grant, which you will never have to repay. The amount depends on your family’s income: the lower it is, the more you will receive. The money comes from the Landesgedächtnisstiftung, a foundation set up by the Tyrolean provincial government. It steps in if the Austrian student grant does not cover your study or research stay abroad.

Who can apply

  • What you do abroad: A full-time degree at a recognised university or specialist institution abroad. Arts training at an internationally recognised school in Europe or overseas also counts. So does a research stay of at least 6 months that your degree requires.
  • Why abroad: You can demonstrate that the programme is not available in Austria or that it is significantly better than any comparable programmes there.
  • Federal aid: You are not eligible for Austrian government funding for this stay.
  • Degree level: You are a full-time student on a Bachelor’s, Diplom or Master’s degree programme. PhD students are not eligible for funding.
  • Field of study: Open to all subjects.
  • Age: You are under 30 when you apply.
  • Family income: Your parents’ monthly net income is below a threshold which increases depending on the size of the household. Examples: 3,775 euros for 2 people, 4,422 euros for 4 people.
  • Where you live: Your main place of residence is in Tyrol. Austrian nationals are eligible to apply. So too are citizens of the EU, the EEA and Switzerland, as well as certain other individuals with long-standing ties to Tyrol.
  • Not covered: Erasmus or free-mover semesters (a semester abroad you organise yourself) of one or two terms, language courses, summer schools, internships, distance learning and part-time degrees for working people.

How to apply

Please apply online to the State Memorial Foundation by 30 April of the academic year. Please include a personal statement explaining why you need the placement, as well as a budget breakdown and a plan detailing how you will cover the costs. There will be no interview. A scholarship committee will make a decision based on your written application and will inform you of the result in writing.
