About this grant / loan

What you get

You will receive a one-off payment of up to 3,600 EUR from the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna (Vetmeduni Vienna). This is intended to cover exceptionally high costs incurred whilst writing your thesis, such as a research placement abroad, extensive literature reviews or the collection of your own data. The number of grants awarded each year depends on the budget. The payment does not cover writing and printing costs, binding costs, general equipment such as a computer or office supplies, nor any costs that are already covered by your department.

Who can apply

  • University: You are a full-time student at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna. Any subject taught there is eligible.
  • Thesis: You are currently writing a bachelor’s thesis, master’s thesis or doctoral thesis that has not yet been completed.
  • Extra costs: Your final dissertation costs considerably more than a standard one, and no other institution will cover these costs.
  • Nationality: You are an Austrian citizen or a foreign or stateless student who, in accordance with Section 4 of the Study Support Act (StudFG), is entitled to Austrian study grant.
  • Study duration: You are still within the standard funding period for your course. An extension may be granted for valid reasons, such as illness.
  • First time for this thesis: You have not yet received this scholarship for the same thesis.

How to apply

Please apply by email to the university’s scholarship office between 15 September and 30 October. Along with the application form, please submit a description of your planned final thesis, a cost and funding plan, and at least one reference from a qualified university lecturer. This reference must confirm the costs and attest to your ability to complete the thesis with above-average success. The decision is based solely on your written application materials, and everyone will receive a written response. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

How realistic are your chances?

The group of students eligible for funding is small. You must be studying at this specific university, still within the duration of your funded studies, and demonstrate that your final dissertation involves exceptionally high costs. The number of scholarships depends on the annual budget, and your supervisor’s assessment carries considerable weight. If your cost breakdown is well documented and your supervisor strongly supports it, your chances are good.
