Subsidies for Tyrolean Students

If you are studying in Austria, you will receive one-off, non-repayable payment of 300 to 3,000 EUR per academic year. For a full-time degree programme in the EEA or Switzerland, you will receive 500 to 5,000 EUR. The exact amount depends on your household income. The Landesgedächtnisstiftung (Tyrol’s regional memorial foundation) pays out this amount to help students from Tyrol who receive little or no state student finance, so that financial difficulties do not force you to drop out of your studies.

Who can apply

• Home in Tyrol: Your main place of residence is in Tyrol. This applies to Austrian nationals, EU citizens, EEA citizens and Swiss nationals resident in Tyrol, third-country nationals who have been resident in Tyrol for at least 5 years, and recognised refugees resident in Tyrol.
• Degree level: You are a full-time student on a standard Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme at a university, a university of applied sciences, an academy, a recognised private higher education institution or a conservatoire with public status. Doctoral programmes are not eligible for funding.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Where you study: In Austria, the EEA or Switzerland. Outside Europe, only in exceptional cases. The following are not covered: language courses, summer schools, part-time or distance-learning programmes, exchange programmes lasting just one semester (such as Erasmus), and work placements abroad.
• Age: When applying, you are subject to 30.
• Financial need: Your household’s monthly net income is below the threshold: 3,775 EUR for a 2-person household, 4,100 EUR for 3, 4,422 EUR for 4, 4,744 EUR for 5 and 324 EUR for each additional child. If you are fully self-supporting, your parents’ income will not be taken into account.
• Second degree: Funding for a second degree will only be provided if its subject matter is clearly related to your first degree.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the Foundation’s online form by 30 April of the academic year. The Foundation’s governing bodies will decide on each application. There is no legal entitlement to funding.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very strictly defined. You must live in Tyrol, be under 30 years of age, demonstrate a genuine financial need, and receive little or no state student finance. As a result, the number of people eligible for the grant remains small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can provide proof of your income, your chances are good, although the committee decides on a case-by-case basis and it is important to meet the application deadline.
