About this award / prize
Erika Weinzierl Prize at the University of Salzburg
You will receive a one-off cash prize of EUR 3,000 for an outstanding final thesis in the field of women’s and gender studies, written at the University of Salzburg. The prize is funded by the City of Salzburg (Department for Culture, Education and Knowledge) and the Province of Salzburg (Office for Women, Diversity and Equal Opportunities). It is awarded approximately every two years for a completed research project on the topic of gender.
Who can apply
- Type of work: You have written a Master’s thesis, a diploma thesis or a doctoral thesis at the University of Salzburg.
- Topic: Her work focuses on gender studies. She examines how gender intersects with other categories such as class, background or disability (an intersectional approach).
- Timing: The University of Salzburg officially accepted your thesis on 1 June 2023.
- Field of study: All faculties and departments are welcome to apply.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. There are no age or gender restrictions.
How to apply
Please email a PDF file to the University’s Department of ‘Politics & Gender, Diversity & Equality’. Please attach your final thesis, your supervisor’s report and a short statement of purpose of no more than 350 words to your email. The application deadline for the final round was 20 June. A panel comprising gender researchers and representatives from the funding organisations will then select the winner.
How realistic are your chances?
This prize is awarded on a highly selective basis. Only doctoral theses that have been accepted by the University of Salzburg within a specified period and deal with gender studies are eligible, which is why very few candidates apply. If your thesis clearly fits this topic and your supervisor gives it a positive assessment, your chances are good. As this is a single prize awarded every two years, it continues to recognise truly original research.
