About this award / prize

Major Literature Grants of the Province of Tyrol

You will receive 15,000 EUR to write a new literary work over a period of up to two years. The amount will be paid in two instalments: 12,000 EUR immediately following the decision and the remaining 3,000 EUR upon completion of the work. The Province of Tyrol awards two grants per cycle, one per category. For the 2027/2028 round, these are poetry and drama, with drama also including radio plays and original screenplays. The categories change from cycle to cycle. The grant gives you time to focus on a specific writing project.

Who can apply

  • You are a writer: You already have at least one of these to show: a literary book published by a publisher (not self-published), at least three pieces in recognised literary magazines or anthologies, two radio plays broadcast, one stage play performed in a theatre, or one filmed screenplay.
  • A new project: You are applying with a project that you still need to write. Work that has already been completed does not count. You may only submit one project per category.
  • Link to Tyrol: You have a close connection to Tyrol – whether because of your own background or your project – and you explain this clearly in your application.
  • Nationality: You are a national of Austria, another EU country, an EEA country or Switzerland.
  • Type of work: Fiction, poetry and drama are included. Reference works, specialist or academic texts, and daily news articles are not included. The texts must be in German or in a valid translation.

How to apply

Please submit your application using the official form and post it to the Culture Department of the Tyrolean Provincial Government in Innsbruck. The deadline for the 2027/2028 round is 1 November 2026 (date as per postmark). An independent expert panel will decide on the allocation of funding; its decision is final.

How realistic are your chances?

Two grants are awarded per cycle, one in each of the two categories. The number of applications is not published.
