Felix Bronner dissertation scholarship (ÖGKM)

You will receive a one-off payment of 25,000 EUR to support your PhD (dissertation) in the field of bone or mineral metabolism. This involves research into how the body builds bone and processes minerals such as calcium. This amount is intended to supplement the basic funding for your project that has already been secured and does not constitute your sole source of funding. It is awarded by the Austrian Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ÖGKM) and is named after Felix Bronner (1921-2015), a nutritionist and honorary member of the Society.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You’re currently working on your PhD thesis.
• Field: Her research focuses on bone and mineral metabolism.
• Where you work: You are writing your doctoral thesis at an Austrian university or research institution.
• Basic funding: Your project already has basic funding, and this grant will supplement that.
• Nomination: You must be nominated by a member of the ÖGKM Executive Board. It is not possible to apply on your own initiative.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, provided they are conducting research in Austria.

How to apply

Please submit your project in English to the ÖGKM secretariat by 31 January. Please include a brief project description and a breakdown of the required material and staff costs. A panel of experts will decide who receives the scholarship. If no convincing project is submitted, the scholarship will not be awarded this year.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very narrowly defined. Only PhD students specialising in bone or mineral metabolism who are conducting research in Austria are eligible, and you must first be nominated by a member of the ÖGKM Executive Board. This keeps the pool of applicants small, meaning that a suitable candidate with a sound, already-funded project has a genuine chance of success. Please note that the scholarship is not awarded every year; you should therefore check whether a call for applications is currently open.
