About this scholarship

Summer Hungarian language course scholarship (Aktion Österreich-Ungarn)

You attend a summer Hungarian-language course in Debrecen, Hungary, for 2 or 4 weeks. The course fee is fully covered, including tuition, three meals a day and accommodation. You also get a contribution towards travel costs, set individually. This is a top-up scholarship, so you still need some of your own money for other costs. The programme is run by the Aktion Österreich-Ungarn foundation, which funds exchange between Austrian and Hungarian universities.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are studying at an Austrian higher education institution: a state or private university, a university of applied sciences or a university of teacher education.
  • How far you are: You have completed at least two semesters.
  • Nationality: You are an Austrian citizen.
  • Age: You are 35 or younger.
  • Field of study: Every field of study, from the natural sciences and engineering to medicine, the social sciences, the humanities and the arts.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via scholarships.at, and all documents must be submitted in German. There are two application deadlines: 15 March and 15 May. A joint Austrian-Hungarian committee reviews the applications and decides on the allocation of funding.

How realistic are your chances?

The target group is small: you must be studying at an Austrian university, be 35 or younger, have completed at least two semesters and wish to learn Hungarian. If you clearly meet these requirements and give a valid reason for taking part, your chances are good. It is advisable to apply by the earlier deadline in March, as places are limited.
