Talent scholarship of the City of Graz

You will receive a one-off payment of 500 EUR for your musical or performing arts talent. The City of Graz’s Cultural Office funds these scholarships each year from its own resources. It awards around six of them to students at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG).

Who can apply

• University: You are studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG).
• Field of study: Every subject taught at the KUG counts, for example piano, violin, singing, clarinet, guitar, composition, church music, jazz or drama.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Lecturers often give preference to students from countries for whom studying in Graz represents a significant financial burden, so international students have a good chance of being accepted.
• Talent: You demonstrate outstanding artistic ability on your instrument or in your field.

How to apply

You cannot apply yourself. Professors at KUG nominate candidates, and an independent panel decides who receives a scholarship. The scholarships are awarded once a year at the university.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is highly selective: only students at the KUG are eligible; around six scholarships are awarded each year; and applicants must be nominated by a professor – it is not possible to apply independently. Your chances depend on whether you have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. International students from countries for whom Graz is an expensive place to live are actively given priority.
