About this scholarship

AK Steiermark study grant

You will receive a one-off payment of 350 EUR per study year to cover your study costs. This supplement is in addition to the state study grant for people on low family incomes. The grant is awarded by the Styrian Chamber of Labour (AK Steiermark), the body that represents workers in Styria. It applies to studies in Austria, abroad or via distance learning.

Who can apply

  • AK membership: At least one of your parents is a member of the AK in Styria and supports you, or you yourself are in employment in Styria that is covered by the AK. This also applies if membership ended shortly before you became unemployed, retired or took parental leave, or if your working hours are very limited.
  • Degree level: You are currently studying for your first Bachelor’s, Master’s or Diplom degree. A PhD only counts if you are studying for a Diplom degree in medicine or dentistry.
  • Financial need: You have a current positive decision from the state scholarship office (stipendium.at). If you began your degree programme after reaching the age of 33, please submit a certificate of enrolment instead, along with details of your income and the income of both your parents from the previous year.
  • Study progress: From the third semester onwards, you must provide evidence of 30 ECTS (14 hours per week) from the last two semesters. You are entitled to one grace semester per stage of study.
  • Field of study: Any topic is fine.
  • Not funded: General doctoral programmes, university degree programmes, continuing professional development courses, second degree programmes and Bachelor’s degree programmes in the fields of nursing, midwifery or other healthcare professions (separate funding is available for these).

How to apply

First, apply for the state study grant via stipendium.at. Once you have received notification that your application has been successful, submit this together with the completed AK application form by email, post or in person. The application period runs from 15 October to 31 March. Applications will be processed in the order in which they are received. Applications cannot be processed retrospectively.
