About this award / prize
Czibulka award (mdw Vienna)
You will receive a one-off payment of 1,000 EUR. The mdw Foundation at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (mdw) awards two of these scholarships in the academic year 2026/27. The money is intended to support students in financial difficulty who are in the final stages of their degree in conducting or composition.
Who can apply
- University: You are studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (mdw).
- Field of study: You study conducting, or composition and music theory.
- Study phase: You are in the final stage of your degree and are enrolled in your main art subject for the summer term 2026.
- Financial need: You can provide evidence of financial hardship, for example by submitting your parents’ payslips, your tenancy agreement and your certificate of residence.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the mdw application form. The application period begins on 9 February 2026. It ends on 29 May 2026 at 23:59. Late or incomplete applications cannot be considered.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is very narrowly defined. Only students in the final stage of their studies in the subjects of conducting and composition at a Viennese university who can demonstrate financial need are eligible, meaning that the pool of eligible candidates is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and can provide evidence of financial need, your chances are good. As only two scholarships are awarded, you should submit your complete application documents well in advance of the deadline.
