About this scholarship

Dr Martha Sobotka and Charlotte Janeczek award

You will receive a one-off 630 EUR for the academic year 2026/27. The mdw Foundation at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw) awards seven of these scholarships to its own music students. The funding is awarded in recognition of outstanding academic and artistic achievements.

Who can apply

  • University: You are a student duly enrolled at the mdw in Vienna.
  • Field of study: You are studying conducting, singing, musical theatre direction or an instrument (harpsichord, piano, chamber music for piano and strings, piano accompaniment, guitar, harp, double bass, viola, violin, cello or organ).
  • Enrolment: You are enrolled in your main art subject for the summer term 2026.
  • Grades: You’re doing very well in your studies.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
  • Financial situation: Your financial difficulties also play a part. You can prove this with your parents’ payslips and your current tenancy agreement.

How to apply

Apply online through the official mdw form. The window runs from 9 February 2026 to 29 May 2026 at 23:59. Submit on time and in full, as late or incomplete applications are not accepted.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is awarded on a highly selective basis. Only students at the mdw enrolled on a limited number of music degree programmes are eligible to apply, and as only seven scholarships are awarded, the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you are enrolled on one of these courses and can demonstrate excellent academic performance, your chances are good. Proven academic and artistic achievement are the key criteria.
