What the Israeli Foreign Ministry scholarship gives you

You will receive funding for one academic year of postgraduate study in Israel: a Master’s, PhD, postdoctoral research or a recognised international programme. The grant covers half your tuition fees, up to 6,000 USD (about 5,200 EUR). You will also receive a monthly living allowance for the 8 months from October to June, as well as basic health insurance. There is a separate 3-week Hebrew summer course called ‘Ulpan’, which covers all course fees, a place in student accommodation, a 3-week allowance and health insurance. The scholarships are awarded by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and are based on cultural agreements between Israel and the partner countries. You are responsible for the costs of accommodation (except during the Ulpan), local transport, and travel to and from Israel. If you are applying from Poland, health insurance is not included.

Who can apply

• Degree: You already hold a bachelor’s degree (BA or BSc) or a higher qualification with good grades.
• Age: At the start of the school year, you’ll be in 35.
• Nationality: You are a national of one of the approximately 40 partner countries. These include Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and most EU countries, as well as countries such as India, China, Japan, Taiwan, Mexico, Argentina and Turkey. If you are an Israeli national, you are not eligible to apply.
• Admission: You have already applied to a university or degree programme in Israel recognised by the Israeli Council for Higher Education and have been accepted.
• Language: You have a sufficient command of English or Hebrew for your chosen degree programme.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.

How to apply

You should submit your application via the Cultural Department of the Israeli Embassy or Consulate in your home country. Please submit the completed application form and your supporting documents there. The deadline is 31 March. The final decision is made around July each year.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is awarded exclusively to nationals of partner countries who already hold a university degree, fall under the 35 category and have secured a place at a recognised Israeli institution. As a result, the pool of applicants is smaller than for fully open scholarships. If you meet these requirements and have your admission confirmation and supporting documents ready, your chances are good. Places are allocated per country via the respective embassy; you should therefore contact your local embassy at an early stage.
