About this scholarship

Support scholarship of the Medical University of Vienna

You will receive a one-off payment of 2,000 EUR to help fund your medical studies. This is a one-off payment, not a monthly scholarship. The money comes from a private donor and is awarded through the Medical University of Vienna, which awards up to ten of these scholarships each winter semester.

Who can apply

  • Programme: You are studying medicine (Diploma programme UN202) at the Medical University of Vienna and are not on leave of absence.
  • Nationality: You are an Austrian citizen or are deemed to have equivalent status under the Austrian Student Financial Aid Act. This also applies to EEA nationals, non-EU nationals, stateless persons and recognised refugees who can provide the necessary evidence.
  • Grades: Your average mark is 2.5 or higher on the Austrian scale from 1 to 5 (weighted according to ECTS credits). In addition, you have passed at least 45 ECTS of compulsory modules in the past academic year.
  • Financial need: You are already receiving the Austrian student grant and can provide the relevant official notification confirming this.
  • Motivation: Please write a short letter of between 300 and 400 words, explaining your financial situation and setting out why you take your studies seriously.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the university’s MedCampus portal between 1 and 30 November each year. Applicants are assessed using a points system based on their ECTS credits, grade point average and any experience as a tutor. In the event of a tie, the university will decide by drawing lots. You will be notified of the result by email.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is highly selective: only medical students in Vienna who are already receiving the state study grant and have an outstanding academic record are eligible to apply, meaning that the pool of eligible candidates is small. As up to ten scholarships are awarded per round, anyone who clearly meets all the requirements stands a good chance. A higher number of ECTS credits, an excellent grade point average and experience as a tutor improve one’s position in the ranking.
