About this scholarship
What you get
You will receive 270 EUR from up to 5 days per year for a short research visit to Hungary. The funds are intended to cover the costs of a short visit to a Hungarian university, archive, library or research institute. The grant is provided by ‘Aktion Österreich-Ungarn’, a foundation established jointly by Austria and Hungary in 1990 to promote research and teaching links between the two countries. Both countries contribute equally to the budget.
Who can apply
- Where you're based: You are affiliated with an Austrian higher education institution: a state or private university, a university of applied sciences funded by the Ministry, or a university of teacher education.
- Where you go: Your placement will take place at a Hungarian institution, for example, at a recognised university, an institute or library of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, an institution belonging to the Eötvös Loránd Research Network, or a specific archive or museum such as the Széchényi National Library, the Hungarian National Museum or the Hungarian National Archives.
- Purpose: People go there for research purposes, for example to make use of collections, archives or facilities that they need for their work.
- Field of study: Applicants from all disciplines are welcome to apply.
- Age: No age limit.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online at scholarships.at, and all documents must be submitted in German. There is no fixed application deadline, so you can apply at any time of the year. The Foundation’s Scholarship Committee will review your application and make a decision.
How realistic are your chances?
This scholarship is aimed at a narrowly defined group: you must be employed at an Austrian institution and be travelling to a specific Hungarian institution for research purposes. This keeps the pool of applicants small. If you clearly meet these requirements and have a specific research reason for your stay, your chances are good. As you can apply at any time, you’ll avoid the annual rush of applicants.
