What the City of Dornbirn study support gives you

You will receive up to 400 EUR per study year as a grant towards your study costs. The exact amount depends on your family’s income and the funds allocated by the city for this purpose. The money comes from the city of Dornbirn in Vorarlberg, Austria, which supports young people from the city who are studying elsewhere. The city also awards its own grants: funding for outstanding final-year projects, diploma or Master’s theses relating to Dornbirn, as well as short-term grants for study or research stays abroad.

Who can apply

• Where you live: Your main place of residence has been in Dornbirn for at least two years.
• Where you study: You are studying at a recognised university, university of applied sciences or academy which awards an academic degree and is located outside Vorarlberg.
• Age: You are 26 years old.
• Grades: You have passed all the exams required for your degree programme so far.
• Financial need: Your family’s net income is no more than 55,000 euros per year. This figure includes any state and federal benefits you receive.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

Please complete the online form on the city portal at mein.dornbirn.at and submit it by 15 December for the current academic year. Please enclose proof of enrolment, proof of academic progress, proof of income, and evidence of any regional or federal grants that you have received or applied for.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is very strictly defined. You must have lived in Dornbirn for at least two years, be under 26 years of age, be studying outside Vorarlberg and not exceed the income threshold. As a result, the number of eligible applicants is small. If you meet these criteria and can provide clear evidence of your income and academic progress, your chances are good. There is no legal entitlement to this grant, and the amount awarded depends on the city’s budget. You should therefore apply in good time.
