Medical University of Innsbruck (Innsbruck/Austria) - Merit scholarship

What you get

For outstanding academic achievement, you will receive a one-off payment of up to 1,500 EUR (from 750 EUR), which covers two semesters. This is a one-off payment and not a monthly scholarship. The Medical University of Innsbruck (MUI) awards this payment in accordance with the Austrian Student Finance Act. Meeting all the criteria does not guarantee that the payment will be awarded.

Who can apply

• University: You are a student at the Medical University of Innsbruck.
• Field of study: You are studying one of four degree programmes: the Diploma in Medicine, the Diploma in Dentistry, or the Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme in Molecular Medicine.
• Grades: Your ECTS-weighted average mark is 2.0 or higher. Under the Austrian grading system, 1 is the highest mark and 5 is a fail, meaning that 2.0 is well above average.
• Timing: You completed your degree or a stage of your studies between 1 October 2025 and 30 September 2026.
• Study duration: You are still within the standard period of study plus one additional semester.
• Nationality: You are an Austrian citizen, a foreign national with equivalent status, or a stateless person within the meaning of the Student Financial Support Act.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via ELSA, the University’s student administration system, between 1 and 18 October 2026. If you are enrolled on two degree programmes, you may only apply for one of them. Late or incomplete applications will not be processed, and you will not be able to correct them at a later date.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. Only students on four specific medical degree programmes at a university with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher are eligible. The group of eligible applicants is therefore small. The budget is allocated to these degree programmes in proportion to the number of places available, which keeps the pool of applicants manageable. If you clearly meet the requirements regarding grades and deadlines and submit a complete application by the deadline, your chances are good, even though the award of the scholarship is never guaranteed.
