What the Nikola Tesla Scholarship gives you

Whilst studying abroad, you do not have to pay any tuition fees to Graz University of Technology (TU Graz). The scholarship enables TU Graz students to undertake a study period abroad on their own initiative, outside of a regular exchange programme such as Erasmus. You can take advantage of this for up to two semesters and must spend your time abroad attending courses. Please note that this is the only benefit provided: there is no monthly allowance and no travel allowance.

Who can apply

• University: You are enrolled as a regular student at Graz University of Technology.
• Residence: You are permanently resident in Austria.
• Study progress: You have earned at least 90 ECTS credits on the degree programme for which the period of study abroad is intended.
• Age: They range from 20 to 35. In special cases, such as maternity leave or studying as part of a career change, the upper limit rises to 40.
• Length of stay: Your stay abroad will last at least 30 days and does not fall during the school holidays.
• Field of study: All degree programmes are eligible. If you are studying a natural sciences programme (NAWI) or Electrical Engineering – Audio Engineering, you may only apply if Graz University of Technology is your home university.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via your TUGRAZonline account under ‘International Relations’. The application deadline is 15 November for the winter semester and 15 April for the summer semester. The online form will close one day before the respective deadline.

How realistic are your chances?

This is an internal scholarship offered by Graz University of Technology (TU Graz) with strict eligibility criteria: you must be a student at TU Graz, be resident in Austria, have earned 90 ECTS credits, and organise your stay abroad yourself. As a result, the number of students eligible for funding is small. If you meet these criteria and have a confirmed host institution abroad, your chances are good. However, you should carefully weigh up the benefits, as the scholarship only covers your tuition fees and does not cover living or travel costs.
